Zumba information
When participants see a ZUMBA® class in action, they can't wait to give it a try. ZUMBA® classes feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and international beats. Before participants know it, they're getting fit and their energy levels are soaring! This is not a dance class, but a Dance Fitness Class. Incorporating Fitness with dance moves with high and low intensity movements. There's no other fitness class like a ZUMBA® Fitness-Party. It's easy to do, effective and totally exhilarating, often building a deep-rooted community among returning students.

Competition Team
New this year is the Richard's Competition Team.
Requirements: Students are required to presently/currently be enrolled in Ballet and Jazz to participate in the competition team. Students will work throughout the year on multiple routines to perform and compete at the Fall and Summer Dance Seminars held by the Chicago National Association of Dance Masters and Parades.

Students will broaden their dance education in Ballet, Jazz and Lyrical technique. Students are required to attend the Dance Seminars to compete in the educational based competition.Tryouts are required for the Competition Team and an age requirement of 12-18 years of age. Competition class is Saturday mornings from 9:00-10:30 AM.

Modern Dance

Modern dance technique is designed to develop the mind and body to be an expressive communicator through movement. Structured technical exercises that condition the body for strength, coordination and flexibility are developed. The focus on correct alignment, fall and recovery, centering, and proper articulation of the joints. Modern approaches movement with a unique combination of imagination, expression and technique. The class explores the fluid spirals and dynamic contractions used to create dance patterns, expressive movement, and spatial perception. Intro to Modern is available for students ages 13-18 who are currently enrolled in Ballet.

Ballet/Jazz Combo Class
This 30 minute class for 3-4 year olds teaches the basic fundamental skills in Ballet and Jazz dance. This class provides a fun and motivational social environment for children while learning coordination, rhythm, and listening skills.

Hip-Hop
This 30 minute class is designed as a fun and funky dance class that incorporates rhythmic movement to popular music of today. Hip-hop is a high-energy blend of today's "street style" movements which will keep students in shape as they learn new upbeat moves. Classes are available for students ages 6 and up. Students must be presently and continuously enrolled in Jazz.

Beginner Lyrical
This 30 minute beginner level Lyrical class is designed for middle school aged students who are presently and continuously enrolled in Ballet. Lyrical is a form of dance which combines Ballet and Jazz technique to show one's expression along with technical skills to create an interpretation of a story.

Irish Dance
Beginner Soft Shoe, Adv. Soft Shoe, Beg. and Adv. Hard Shoe Irish and Adult Irish are available. Beginner Soft Shoe is available for students ages 5-8 whom are currently enrolled in Ballet. Students interested in Adv. Soft Shoe Irish must be presently and continually enrolled in Ballet and currently in 4th grade or older. Students in Beg. And Adv. Soft Shoe Irish learn the proper positioning and posture used in Irish dancing to execute the Irish Reel. Students interested in Beg. And Adv. Hard Shoe Irish must be presently and continually enrolled in both Tap and Ballet and currently in 6th grade or older. Students in Beg. And Adv. Hard Shoe Irish learn the proper positioning and posture used in Irish dancing to execute impeccable Trebles. *NEW* Adult Hard Shoe Irish. Adult Irish is for all adults students of any ability. Individuals learn the proper skills and technique in Hard Shoe .

Boys Only Specialty Class
This NEW 30 minute class is designed for boys ages 6 through adult. Students will be learning Stepping or step-dancing. This form of percussive dance is where the participant's entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoken word, and hand claps.

Adult Irish
This New 45 minute class is designed to introduce Adults to Irish Step Dancing. Individuals will be introduced to basics reels and jigs.

Advanced Adult Hip Hop
This 55 minute class is designed for Advanced students looking for technique based workout routines. Movements are fast, bouncy, and energetic. Dancers will learn to exercise body control, movement, flexibility, and rhythm.

Rhythm & Rhyme
This 30 minute class for 2-3 year olds introduces students to music and dance, while providing instruction in basic ballet technique along with creative movement. Movement games, music, rhythm, scarves and other props are used to allow creativity for each child. Students learn to listen to directions from the teacher and mirror actions of the teacher. This class is designed to promote social, emotional and physical skills. This class allows students to socially interact with other children their age, as well as with their teacher.

Tiny Tots
This 30 minute class for 3-4 year olds teaches the basic fundamental skills in Tap dancing. This class provides a fun and motivational social environment for children while learning coordination, rhythm, and listening skills.

Pre-Tap
This 30 minute class is designed for 5-7 year old students to introduce the fundamentals and intricacy of tap, rhythm, and synchronization. Live piano accompaniment is provided for all classes.

Pre-Ballet
This 30 minute class is designed for 5-7 year old students to introduce basic Ballet positions and technique, as well as coordination of their bodies. Live piano accompaniment is provided for all classes.

Pre-Jazz
This 30 minute class is designed for 5-7 year old students to introduce the basic fundamentals of Jazz technique and steps, while focusing on developing flexibility. Routines are set to age appropriate popular music.

Tap
Beginner/intermediate/advanced levels meet for 30 minute classes and are introduced to basic Tap technique skills, while continuing the development of rhythmic technique and coordinated foot work. As students progress, steps increase in intricacy and complexity of rhythm patterns. Intermediate and advanced levels are introduced to Broadway style Tap, which allows students to sing and tap dance. Live piano accompaniment is provided for all classes.

Ballet
Beginner/intermediate levels meet for 30 minute classes. This class teaches students proper body alignment, balance, traditional Ballet technique, while at the same time building muscle tone and strength. Live piano accompaniment is provided for all classes.

Pointe
Pre-Pointe/beginner Pointe meet for 30 minute classes and are offered to those students who have mastered the knowledge and technique of Ballet and are ready for the next level. For the safety of student’s ankles and feet, students must be at least 12 years old and Instructor approval is needed.

Lyrical
This 45 minute class is available to advanced students in grades 9th thru 12th with at least 5 years of Ballet experience. Lyrical is a form of dance which combines Ballet and Jazz technique to show one’s expression along with technical skills to create an interpretation of a story.

Jazz
Beginner/intermediate levels meet for 30 minute classes and advanced levels meet for 45 minute classes. This class focuses on turns, leaps, jumps, isolations, floor work, and flexibility. Students learn different Jazz styles from the traditional American Jazz, Broadway musicals and music/styles from popular culture.

Kickline
Intermediate levels meet for 30 minute classes and advanced levels meet for 45 minute classes. Students must be presently and continually enrolled in both Tap and Ballet. The intermediate level works on the proper technique of executing kicks and executing intricate and precise Tap skills. The advanced level works on proper technique of executing kicks and executing precise pickups and pullbacks.

Men’s Class
This class is designed to give fathers the ability to learn to dance. Each year the Men’s class performs a Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Ballet, or Comical number for the annual recital. Each year depending on the style of dance the Men’s class works on technique related to the dance form chosen.

Ladies Class
This class is designed for individuals looking to continue their dance education in the form of Tap. The ladies class works on Tap technique for the studio’s annual recital. The class focuses on the intricacies of tap, rhythm, and synchronization.

Adult Tap-Fit
Open classes for adults who enjoy dance as an exercise offers a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the benefits of a physical workout and the enjoyment of dance. Basic tap steps are used to provide a continuous 55 minute dance workout routine.

Adult Hip Hop
Hip Hop students dance to contemporary, up-tempo radio songs and learn the latest popular moves in a continuous 55 minute dance workout routine. Movements are fast, bouncy, and energetic. Dancers will learn to exercise body control, movement, flexibility, and rhythm.

Adult Jazz
New to the curriculum, adult Jazz will be available to individuals interested in continuing their dance education in Jazz. The class focuses on turns, leaps, jumps, isolations, floor work, and flexibility.

Classes for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
This combination class of Tap and Jazz is offered for children thru adult for individuals interested in dance. A certified educational interpreter is provided for individuals to enjoy the art of dance.

Show Choir
Encore! a first of its kind show choir for the Oshkosh area. Encore! is an audition-only vocal and dance ensemble directed by Oshkosh Youth Choir director J. Jensen and choreographed by Richard's School of the Dance.

Combining 4 part vocal harmonies with the visual drama of dance, show choirs are some of the most entertaining performances for audiences to enjoy. Encore! has 5 slots available for each vocal part: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass. This exciting group will rehearse some of the most inspiring songs and dances from Broadway for performances around the region in March and April. The possibility also exists that Encore! will participate in regional and national show choir competitions.
